Interior Design Students Win Awards at 2022 Illuminating Engineering Society Competition

Several Interior Design students recently received two top awards from the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) 2022 Student Competition. Students Iman Amil, Maria Gutierrez Soria, and Ava Moore took home third place for their project, while Piper Pittman, Megan Walters, and Raven McCool took home fourth place. Both teams were advised by Mia Kile, an associate professor of Interior Design

IES is an organization that publishes standards for the lighting industry. The organization strives to improve lighted environments by bringing together those with lighting knowledge through professional and educational opportunities. Each year, IES hosts an annual conference where the Illumination Awards are presented.

For this year’s design challenge, the students had to develop a complete lighting design for a sports medicine rehabilitation facility that was approximately 8,600 square feet in scope. This consisted of an entry hall, reception area, locker rooms, hydrotherapy area, shake bar, equipment room, office spaces, workroom, biomechanics lab and gymnasium area.
