Institute For Quality Communities Creates Plan to Revitalize Iconic Red Phone Booths

At the end of last semester, Gibb’s College of Architecture’s Institute for Quality Communities (IQC) completed its first project for the 2022-2023 academic year. The project, The University of Oklahoma Phone Booths: A New Calling, focused on developing a reactivation strategy for the historic red phone booths found around Campus and Campus Corner.

Jeremy Lambeth, Director of Risk Management at OU’s David L. Boren College of International Studies, approached the IQC with a proposal to study, remediate, and revitalize the red London phone booths. After thorough historical research and extensive outreach to community stakeholders, the team proposed new strategies to maintain the beauty of these iconic phone booths.

These recommendations range from simple maintenance upkeep to transformative programming changes to give these booths a new life. To learn more about this project, click here.
